Every mid-range graphics card decision in India comes down to the same argument: raw speed now, or memory that keeps the card usable in three years. The Challenger OC answers it by refusing to choose — 16 GB on a card that does not need an expensive power supply or a large case.

Why 16 GB is the line that matters
Eight gigabytes was comfortable at 1440p a few years ago. It is not comfortable now. Texture packs have grown, ray tracing costs memory before it costs anything else, and a card that runs out of frame buffer does not get slower gracefully — it stutters, because it is swapping data over the PCIe bus mid-frame.
Sixteen gigabytes takes that failure mode off the table for the life of the card. On a 1440p machine that you intend to keep, it is worth more than a few percent of raw speed, and it is the reason we point people at this card over faster 8 GB alternatives.
The two lines that decide whether it fits your build
160 W and a single 8-pin. This is the practical half of the card, and it is why we sell a lot of them.
- A 550 W supply of decent quality runs it. You do not need to replace a working PSU.
- One connector, not two or three. Most existing supplies already have it.
- Dual-fan means a shorter card. It goes into compact and mid-tower cases that a triple-fan card fights with.
If you are upgrading an existing prebuilt or a smaller machine, these three points are frequently the whole decision, and they are the ones spec comparisons ignore.
What to expect at each resolution
1440p is what the card is built for: high settings in current titles at frame rates that suit a 144 Hz panel, with the memory headroom to keep textures at maximum.
1080p high refresh is comfortable — the card is not the limit in most competitive titles.
4K is not its job. It will render at 4K in less demanding games, but buying this card for a 4K panel is buying the wrong card.
Challenger or Steel Legend?
ASRock sells the same GPU in two dresses, and the difference is not performance.
- Challenger OC — plainer, dual-fan, shorter, generally cheaper. Buy this one if the card is going inside a case with a solid side panel, or a small case, or if the budget is the point.
- Steel Legend OC — triple-fan, white finish, ARGB lighting, runs a little cooler and quieter under sustained load. Buy this one if the build is on display and the aesthetic matters to you.
Nobody should pay more for lighting they will never see. We will ask what your case looks like before we recommend one.
What to pair with it
- Processor: anything from a Ryzen 5 5600 or 7600 upward keeps up at 1440p.
- Power supply: a quality 550 W unit with an 8-pin PCIe connector.
- Monitor: this card is aimed squarely at 1440p; pairing it with a 1080p 60 Hz panel wastes it.
- Case: check depth, but this is one of the easier cards to house.
