The cheapest card worth buying is a moving target. Right now, for a 1080p machine in India, the RTX 5050 is where the conversation starts — provided you understand exactly what its 8 GB does and does not allow.

What Blackwell brings at this price
The reason to buy a current-generation entry card rather than a discounted older one is not raw speed — it is the feature set.
DLSS 4 is the important one. Upscaling from a lower internal resolution lets a modest card present a sharp 1080p image at a frame rate it could not render natively, and the current generation of the technique is good enough that the compromise is genuinely hard to see in motion. On a card at this level, that is not a bonus feature; it is a substantial part of what you are buying.
Hardware encoding matters if you stream or record. NVIDIA's encoder remains the easier one to live with, and on a budget machine it means you can capture gameplay without the processor taking the hit.
The 8 GB question, answered plainly
Eight gigabytes is enough for 1080p today. It is not generous, and it will not become more generous.
What that means in practice:
- At 1080p, with sensible texture settings, you will be fine across current titles.
- At 1440p, you will be memory-limited in demanding games before you are compute-limited. Texture settings will have to come down.
- Ray tracing consumes video memory. Turning it on at 1080p in a heavy title can put you near the limit.
If you intend to keep the machine for four or five years and play new AAA releases, be honest that 8 GB is the part that will age first. If you play esports titles, older games and the occasional new release at sensible settings, it will not trouble you.
Where it genuinely shines
- Compact and prebuilt upgrades. A dual-fan card with a 550 W requirement drops into machines that cannot take anything larger. This is a very easy card to fit.
- Esports at high refresh. Valorant, CS2, Dota, Rocket League — well past 144 Hz at 1080p.
- A first gaming PC. It is enough card to enjoy, at a price that leaves budget for a decent monitor, which matters more than most first-time builders expect.
What to pair with it
- Processor: a Ryzen 5 5600, 7600 or equivalent. Do not put this card behind a very old processor.
- Power supply: a quality 550 W unit. The wattage is modest; the quality is not optional.
- Monitor: a 1080p 144 Hz panel is the right partner. Buying a 1440p monitor for this card is buying a compromise.
- Memory: 16 GB system RAM minimum, 32 GB if the budget allows.
Who should spend more
