Request a written quotation and turn it into an order
How the quote path works, and why a quotation carries an expiry.
Safety level: informational · Time: about 5 minutes · Level: beginner
For anything in quantity, a written quotation is better than a cart. Here is how the path works.
Applies to
Business and bulk purchases. Retail single items do not need this — the catalogue price is the price.
Request one
- Build the requirement in your cart, exactly as you would an order.
- Choose Request a quotation instead of Checkout.
- Add anything we need to know: a required-by date, whether you would accept an equivalent part, and any documentation your finance team needs on the invoice.
- Submit. It goes to the trade desk.
You can also send a list of part numbers and quantities directly if that is easier than filling a cart.
What comes back
An itemised quotation: line by line, GST inclusive, with a validity period on it.
The validity is not a sales tactic. Component prices genuinely move week to week — a quotation that never expired would not be a real price, and we would either have to pad it or dishonour it.
Accept it
- Open the quotation from My quotes.
- Review the lines. If something needs to change, ask before accepting rather than after.
- Accept. It converts straight into an order without re-entering anything.
Expected result
A firm price you can take to your finance team, and a one-click path from that document to a real order.
If it does not work
- A line came back as an alternative — that means your exact part was unavailable. We raise substitutions rather than making them silently; if the alternative does not suit, say so.
- The quotation expired — ask for a refresh. Most lines will be unchanged.
- You need different payment terms — those are agreed per account, not per quotation. Raise it with the trade desk.
